5 Research-Backed Benefits of CBD
Over the past few years, the body of research on cannabidiol, CBD oil products, and other cannabinoids has increased exponentially. HempWellness CBD, a trusted go-to source of quality CBD hemp oil products in Illinois, presents some of the latest scientific studies related to CBD and its potential health benefits.
- Pain Relief
Perhaps one of the most popular health benefits of CBD oil is its pain-relieving effects. It’s believed that CBD interacts with receptors in the immune system and brain to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief. A 2008 study shows that CBD provides effective pain relief without causing adverse side effects in patients.
- Anxiety and Stress
Across various cultures, one of the most common uses of cannabis and CBD is for anxiety and stress. A 2012 research review assessing a number of international studies concluded that CBD can reduce anxiety, particularly social anxiety.
- Cancer Prevention
Research indicates that CBD may be useful in the prevention and treatment of cancer. For instance, one study shows that CBD (as well as some of the other compounds found in cannabis) have an antitumor effect and can increase the death of tumor cells in both leukemia and colon cancer. Another study shows that CBD can be used to prevent cell growth and induce cell death in cervical cancer cells. A 2015 medical records analysis of over 84 thousand male patients in California showed that patients who used cannabis (but not tobacco) had a rate of bladder cancer that was 45% below the average. Notice: While promising, please note that majority of CBD and cancer studies are pre-clinical and shouldn’t be taken as conclusive proof that CBD can cure cancer.
- Bone Disease Prevention
Research indicates that CBD can block an enzyme that destroys bone-building compounds in the body. This reduces the risk of age-related bone diseases, such as osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. In these bone conditions, the body no longer creates new cartilage cells and bone. CBD can help spur new bone-cell formation, which is why it has been found to optimize the healing speed of broken bones.
Throughout the years, there have been several studies reviewing the benefits of CBD and its anti-seizure benefits; however, there has been no conclusive link. Finally, in 2017, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial entitled, “Trial of Cannabidiol for Drug-Resistant Seizures in the Dravet Syndrome”, studied the effects of CBD medication on young adults with Dravet syndrome – a type of epilepsy with fever-induced seizures. Patients provided with CBD experienced a 38.9% drop of their seizure frequency.
